Detailed description of Tumbledown Trails Golf Club, CLOSED 2018

Tumbledown Trails Golf Club is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Verona, Wisconsin.

The Tumbledown Trails Golf Course first opened for play in 1994. The course was designed by Art Johnson.

Tumbledown Trails Golf Course has undulating greens, water hazards and sand bunkers. Trees also provide an obstacle on most holes. The signature hole is #16, 202-yard, par 3, with water surrounding the elevated green, leaving no safe area from the tee.

Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6501 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5620 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 7, a par-5 that plays to 515 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 5, a par-3 that plays to 129 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 7, a 515 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 14, a 177 yard par-3.

The course closed in October 2018.

$36 (cart included), played on Friday, August 2012 at 8am

A visitor to the area, I played here on Friday 8-24-12, for $37, including cart. After 10 AM, price goes up about 7 or 8 bucks, which is backwards from the way pricing is adjusted in my home state of MD. Different strokes, I guess.

This is a pretty basic course, no bells, no whistles, no railroad ties, no big-name designer, but it is a nice friendly layout, with enough challenge to provide a little zing, especailly if one gets careless off the tee.

Conditions today were excellent, despite the current drought. Fairways were good, tee boxes were, too, although they could use some weedkiller on several of them. Bunkers were excellent, and the greens were too, although they putted a litle slow for my taste (guess they don't want to mow them too closely with the lack of rain). A few greens had small burnt areas (no more than ten or twelve square feet) and they did not affect play.

Overall, most greens are medium-sized by today's standards, with little contouring, although they are modestly sloped. A couple of the Par 5's may be reachable in 2, depending on tee position, and two of the par 3's are fairly long: beware #14, which has hidden water down gthe left side! There is some minor elevation change on the course, but not very much, and what there is rarely affects play. Course is walkable.

Staff was very friendly, and made us feel welcome. Clubhouse is unpretentious, but has all of the essentials. I liked the course, the atmosphere, and the price. I recommend!

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
